How to Pick Up Pottery

How to Pick Up your Pottery

Your Pottery is NOT guaranteed to come out of the kiln as firing goes up to 1250C and at these high temperatures firing clay can be very reactive. So cracks and Kiln explosions are therefore a possibility. Although Christina tries hard to reduce this through thorough drying and slow firings. Pottery faults are very normal in Ceramics and part of the process. This makes undamaged work extra-special.

  1. Once you have finished your 2 hour session; Christina will tidy up, dry, bisque fire, glaze, & glaze fire your finished work.

Work can take up-to 15 weeks to come out of the glaze firing. Wait for Christina to email you/the person that booked your session OR check the finished work webpage*.

2. Book in a pick up time with Christina by texting her mobile number 07543862239 (not available Saturday or Sunday). Usually available every Tuesday 10am-7pm; OR organise a day and time that suits us both during the week to collect your Torquay pottery class finished work.

3. Pick up from the studio. This is the same address as where you had your session. It would be helpful if you brought a bag and newspaper but don’t worry if you don’t as Christina does have newspaper to wrap up your work.

*this is a Pinterest page as I found this is the easiest way to upload many photos quickly. There should be a clear photo with a name below it to confirm it is yours. You may have to create a Pinterest account if you do not already have one to view.

Sometimes not all of one person/group’s work comes out at the same time so you can choose to pick up as it comes out or pick up when it’s all out of the kiln.

*Please keep in mind that Christina cannot alway check at what stage your work is because it is in large groups of other work or is in the kiln being fired (everything is fired twice and both take 24 hours )
